Then over time packages will be brought in that will turn the saucy development branch from a Raring code base into a saucy code base. To start with it will be the Raring Code base. Otherwise users of 13.04 will find themselves using 13.10 in six months time and Raring will have become the daily updated kind of, sort of rolling release.Ī new set of repositories have to be opened with the saucy urls and there has to be stuff to put at those locations. The Raring Repositories are now closed in the sense that the Raing code base will only receive the standard support updates. We will find that the extras repositories will be giving errors for weeks to come. It is conventional wisdom that system will break in these early stages - so unless one has an extra surplus machine then early beta testing should be deferred.Īs competition would have it, Windows 8 has far exceeded Ubutnu on various form factors and so I am looking forward to this release as being the new 'setting of the bar' which will bring ubuntu up to speed. I have 8 towers and 3 laptops all commited to testing. Unless you have an extra hdd or other machines or are an experienced beta tester then stick with the safe and stable route. Please note that I do not advise (nor did I advise) that this proceedure be executed on a production machine. Sudo sed -i 's/raring/saucy/g' /etc/apt/sources.list

I haven't done it yet.probably will do it on friday.but i wanted to get "straight" on what exactly to do (i am a newbie at upgrading).Įverything is working well here after putting in just those three commands. This is getting confusing.thought it was supposed to be just the three commands  MatchURI: /ubuntu|/ubuntu-ports|ĭescription: Unsupported did that work just using the three commands, or did you have to do all those changes that pnarciso mentioned above your post?

To avoid that you must enter this line in the console: sudo gedit /usr/share/python-apt/templates/. Changing to saucy repos, make software-properties-gtk to crash.
